Welcome Message

Dear Colleagues:

Welcome to the South Florida Veterinary Medical Association. Your membership allows us to be the largest local VMA's in Florida. We are also the only local VMA with a political action committee, foundation, and website.

Our membership numbers provide us with good lobbying strength when we go meet with our legislators. Now more than ever the veterinary profession needs people to champion our causes in local government affairs as well as in state affairs. The Veterinary Practice Act protects our interests as well as public health and safety.  New bills are being brought forth in both the Florida House and Senate which threaten the Veterinary Practice Act. In order to oppose these Bills, the SFVMA meets with our legislators locally and in Tallahassee. By doing this, we protect, promote, and strengthen the profession. For more information on what the SFVMA is doing to protect our interest go to www.sfvma.org. Click on members only, then go to legislative update.

As an SFVMA member, you receive local continuing education opportunities to satisfy all of the veterinary licensing requirements. The SFVMA provides you access to the most current veterinary and business information available. The bi-monthly newsletter will keep you informed on the latest SFVMA news.

The SFVMA has multiple social events. This year we participated at the HSGM Dog Walk. In conjunction with our non profit arm, The South Florida Veterinary Foundation (SFVF), our booth contained educational information on caring for your pet. Clinics with SFVMA members were recognized at the booth. The Spring Picnic will be held on April 25th at the beautiful Matheson Hammock Park. As in years past, there will be great food and activities. The first annual Veterinary Golf Tournament is taking place at the Golf Club of Miami on May 29. All proceeds will benefit the SFVF. Over the summer we will be having several Happy Hour Events and the annual Fishing Tournament. Then at year's end enjoy an elegant Christmas Sunday lunch.

As a member you’re invited to share in the exchange of ideas that occur at board meetings, either by coming to the meetings or contacting one of our board members. If you are interested in serving on any of our committees (legislative, social, fishing tournament, website) contact me at listamp@yahoo.com. For information on the South Florida Veterinary Foundation contact Dr. Julio Ibanez at 235-4991.

Warm Regards,
Marta Lista DVM
